Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark.
— Agnes De Mille
Here we are in March (how did that happen so fast??) and the sun is staying out a little longer, we have little teasers here and there of warm beautiful weather, and some of us have noticed a few early blossoms peeking out from the earth. As we have spent the dark months of winter spending time in internal observation these teasers have been a breath of fresh air. A restlessness occurs in us as we itch for spring warmth and light; ready to use the lessons learned in the dark winter to bring ourselves to bloom.. but how? Where do we go from here?
While restless and eager we can simultaneously feel stuck in limbo with ourselves..
When that big change doesn’t automatically come to satisfy us we feel frustrated, stagnant, annoyed.
As humans we share a tendency to scramble for certainty. Spending our time thinking “If I can only just do this/be there/have this, I’ll be happy”, projecting a fabricated version of ourselves in the future that has all the things we want and strive for. While it’s important to dream, this projection is a defense mechanism we create to protect ourselves from really experiencing where we are. The very nature of our existence is forever in flux and we are seemingly doomed to suffer simply because we are fearful of how things really are.
Where are you?
Wherever it is.. Can you meet yourself there?
Not the fabricated you. The real, raw version of you.
Shed the layers you’ve built around yourself to hide your trueness.
While spring is so close, winter wanes for just a little while longer.
The deep inward reflection is not yet over.
There is more for us to learn within.
Be patient as you sit with yourself.
It takes time to watch yourself bloom.
With love & light,
