Melissa Bowles

I have always been drawn to yoga or what I imagined yoga to be. As a lifelong gymnast and coach, the physical postures or asanas fascinated me. Although I have been in “good shape” and a competitive athlete most of my life, I began have severe health issues in my mid teenage years. My autoimmune disease was a continuous struggle from then on taking a dramatic turn for the worse with many additional complications in the past few years. In an effort to heal myself, I turned to yoga. Over the past year I have become diligent with my home practice. I started attending Hot Asana in February. I found it to be welcoming, supportive and friendly. My body, mind and spirit soon craved the studio.

In late July 2018, I attended a month long residential immersion program to receive my 200 hour teacher training in Integral Yoga in Yogaville, the ashram of Sri Swami Satchidananda. Here is where I fully embraced lifestyle medicine. Swami Satchidananda is the founder of Integral Yoga and one of the most respected Yoga masters of our time. He taught the importance of addressing the underlying causes of many chronic diseases. As he often said, “For most people, our natural state is to be easeful and peaceful. We are born with ease until we disturb it by making unhealthy lifestyle choices and become diseased. We are born fine until we allow ourselves to become defined.” My health has never been better and yours can be too! I am eager to share this easeful, peaceful and useful way of life! Om Shanti Shanti Shanti. Namaste.
