I was first introduced to group exercise when my behavior modification class project was to add a positive behavior, so I choose to add regular exercise. In that one semester I learned many things:exercise was hard but effort equals results, that it’s not always easy to add exercise but it’s not impossible, and I found what it was like to actual be present and breathe. It didn’t take long before I started to feel better both physically and mentally, my love of life returned, and I was hooked. Since that first class thirty-plus years ago, I’ve completed several group fitness certifications and workshops including TRX Suspension Training, and Les Mills Body Pump and CXWorx. As time went on, I realized I needed to incorporate more mobility and flexibility training.
Then in August 2014, a hot yoga studio opened in Danville, VA., and the idea of moving in a heated environment sounded wonderful, and it was. On the mat my mind gets quiet, my breath guides me and I am content.
I wanted to learn about yoga – the practice and the science. After much thought, in February 2016 I started my 200-hour yoga teacher training with no intention of teaching yoga. But yoga has so much to offer everyone; how could I not share the benefits of yoga? Try it; it truly is a gift
