I started practicing yoga in 2012 in southern California. It was California, and everyone practiced yoga. I had a physical practice. I came to class to get a physical workout and make the body shape the instructor was cueing. My goal was completely physical.
I moved to Virginia in 2014, and I practiced sporadically. In 2017, a yoga instructor from Hot Asana gave me a “First Class Free” card. I had never taken a hot yoga class and was intrigued. I don’t know if it was because I was at a different place in my life, or I had a different perspective, but from my first class, I felt that tiny bit of stillness and peace a yoga class can offer. I attended more classes. I began to feel the warmth and sense of community my fellow yogis offered. Later in the year, I started working the front desk at the Hot Asana. I became interested in going beyond the physical practice and learning more of the philosophy.
I surprised myself when I signed up for a 200-hour teacher training in 2018. I would never have thought of this as a possibility in my life a few years ago.
I started with the idea I really did not want to teach yoga, I wanted to deepen my own knowledge. The best thing I learned with the knowledge I had gained was to share it with others. I believe this wholeheartedly.
I am still a work in progress; we all are. I would love to share your light and energy on the mat. We can learn and grow together.
